So you are planning on visiting or coming to San Diego and you need an idea of where to stay and what places are on the beach in the areas that are fun with lots of shopping and activities all around.
No problem:-)), we have assembled some of the best hotels in the beach area and have given you some tips on where they are at and how much the cost with our super discounts of 30-70%.

Since Mission Beach, Mission Bay and Pacific Beach are all attached it is important to understand what each place offers and how they are situated by the ocean and attractions.

We start with Mission Bay because Mission Beach has almost no hotels on the beach side. This is mainly due to the fact that Mission Beach is a mainly residential section and beach condos and vacation rentals are about the only places you can stay and be right on the water.
San Diego beach vacation rentals normally require a week stay minimum in the summer with Saturday being the check in day and at least 3-4 days in the winter and off season. For those who do not need that long of a stay a San Diego beachfront hotel is much more economical.

Mission Bay is the east side of Mission Beach and there are many wonderful hotels and resorts that stretch over the 4,000 acres of parks and wetlands.

The West Coast's largest aquatic man-made park covers over 4,000 acres and offers a wide range of recreational activities. Swimmers and sunlovers are drawn to the calm water and soft sand Mission Bay beaches offer. Mission Bay also offers boat docks and launches, sailboat and motor rentals, bike/walk paths, basketball courts, and playgrounds for children. It's one of San Diego's most fun-filled spots to visit. Public restrooms and showers are available and lifeguard stations are located in designated areas.

#1. The Bahia Hotel on Mission Bay
There are a lot of reasons why we like this hotel. Mainly because it is the nicest hotel closest to Mission Beach and the main drag around Belmont Park and the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster

This is the main fun zone in the San Diego beach aras for those visiting the area. The Bahia is surrounded by water and is only 1 block from the beach. There are plenty of places to rent surfboards, boogie boards, bikes and just about anything else you can think of. There is also plenty of places to eat, shop, walk and relax. The Bahia is an older hotel so some of the rooms are a little plain, but the awesome pool, jacuzzi and free Mission Bay Paddleboat Rides every evening make this a very popular choice. In addition to beach the most popular beach hotel in Mission Beach/Mission Bay the Bahia is also only 8 blocks from Seaworld and 10 minutes from downtown and the airport.

The Catamaran Hotel on Mission Bay
This is my personal favorite hotel in the Mission Beach area and like the Bahia Hotel on the other side of the bay, it is also owned by The Evans Hotel Group, whom have done a great job for over 40 years managing these beach resorts. The Catamaran is located at the very north end of Mission Bay and Mission Beach and right behind it sits Pacific Beach, so it is actually located right in the spot where all three areas meet. The Catamaran is a tropical paradise hotel with lots of greenery and fountains. The hotel has a bird room which includes parrots whom are put out on the property in the mornings to bring that natural tropical setting. The Catamaran Hotel has excellent food and is within walking distance to over 10 great seafood and oceanfront dining locations.

The Catamaran also like the Bahia offers a beautiful sunset cruise on the Evens Hotel Paddleboat and there are plenty of jet ski's, bikes, kayaks and other water crafts avaiable for rentals.
The Catamaran Hotel room rates range from $110.00-474.00* depending on the time of year and the quality of the rooms. The Catamaran is a place that has no bad rooms and the quality of the service and staff is excellent. I only live a mile away and when I am looking for an escape this is my choice because the quality and atmosphere are great and the prices are very reasonable.
I feel like I have left San Diego and am really on vacation at this hotel.

The Paradise Point Resort on Mission Bay
This is by far the nicest resort in the San Diego beach areas for several reasons. #1 is that it is located on its own island called "Vacation Island" which home to some beautiful park and beach space. The Paradise Point Resort also has a 9 hole putting course, a 5 star restaurant called "Balleen" and a great little bar and restarant called "The Barefoot Bar', which is a weekend daytime favorite for live music and great lunches. The Paradise Point Resort offers a lot of privacy with the beach bungalows and there are many great walking trails and scenic outlooks overlooking San Diego.

The Hyatt Islandia is a beautiful hotel which is a typical Hyatt with high quality service and a beautful hotel grounds. This hotel is located about 4 blocks to the beach and about 3 blocks (or less) to Seaworld. The Hyatt Islandia has a beautiful marina whick has para-sailing and plenty of fishing charters along with a world class pool area and dining. This hotel also has breathtaking views looking out over the ocean and Mission Bay along with great views of downtown.

The Dana Inn on Mission Bay

The Dana Inn is also located within blocks of Mission Beach and Belmont Park and is a nice place to stay at. It is a little more plain than some of the other hotels, but plain is good and the discounted rates start at 105.00 which is a great deal. It is a nice and clean hotel with a beautful marina situated in the back.

As the closest hotel to SeaWorld, there is an added benefit to staying at The Dana. During the summer, we're ideally situated to watch the nightly SeaWorld fireworks show ' no extra charge! This place is about 100 feet south of The Crystal Pier right on the boardwalk. It is a very clean and also is rather small with less than 100 rooms. The Ocean Park Inn has an awesome pool area which overlooks the ocean and boardwalk area and with discount hotel room rates starting for as low as $92.00 per night it is very economical and a good score for a San Diego vacation spot since it is also within walking distance to over 10 great seafood and ethnic restaurants.


The Surfer Beach Hotel 711 Pacific Beach Drive Pacific Beach

Located right on Mission Blvd this place is less than a block away from the ocean and 2 blocks away from Garnet Avenue which is the main drag in the Pacific Beach area sporting a ton of cool clothing stores and boutiques along with tons of fun bars and excellent restaurants. If you are looking for a low cost place that is close to everything this place is a good choice.

When it comes to our personal favorite place to stay it is The Catamaran Hotel located at 3999 Mission Blvd. right on the corner of Mission Blvd. and Pacific Beach Drive. Although this place is not right on the ocean it is on Mission Bay which is also very scenic and much more relaxing and peaceful. The Catamaran is a resort styled hotel with 3 different restaurants and bars on the property along with jet ski rentals, kayaks, paddle boats, hobie sailing boats and more. It is also the home to an awesome Mississippi style paddleboat "The Bahia Belle", which cruises you around the bay in the evening to watch sunset and enjoy dancing and drinks on a beautiful open air deck and three story layout with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the awesome bay views. The Catamaran Hotel is a place that when you go there you feel like you are on vacation even if you live here. It is also loaded with tons of tropical plants, huge waterfalls, lots of bird and parrotts which visit guests in the lobby and beautiful walking trails with ducks and other wildlife wondering about.

The Best Western Blue Sea Lodge at 707 Pacific Beach Drive, Pacific Beach is the only beachfront hotel in Mission Beach. Located right on the cut off of Mission Beach and Pacific Beach (Pacific Beach Drive) this hotel is located right next to The Surfer Hotel is newly renovated, right on the beach, and has room rates which go from $89.00 a night and up. Take advantage of the free continental breakfast before walking on the beach or going roller blading on the boardwalk.

This is the only "Mission Beach oceanfront hotel" since Mission Beach is primarily a residential community with vacation rentals taking up most of the boardwalk area along the ocean.
