The Bridge leading to Mission Beach from Mission Bay. The area across the bridge is Mission beach and it goes all the way to the right where the bay hits land. That area (north) is Pacific Beach and where the hill area begins is La Jolla.
Mission beach is a strip of sand about 3 1/2 miles long with the Pacific Ocean on one side and Mission Bay on the other.
Everything to the left of the bridge is South Mission Beach. This bridge runs staight into Belmont Park and The Giant Dipper Roller Coaster.
The view is from The Hyatt Regency Islandia Hotel on Mission Bay

Black's Beach in La Jolla
Black's Beach is one unique spot in that it is the only clothing optional beach in San Diego and also that it requires a major climb up and down to get to. Here is a photo of some of the stairs on the way down.
Black's Beach is just north of Scripp's Pier and Oceanography Institute and is an area where the depth of the ocean goes from over 2 miles deep to just about 10 feet by shore within a mile. This creates massive waves when the conditions are right which are larger than any other waves in the San Diego area. Because UCSD University is so close it makes for a wide range of beach goers with a small percentage going "clothing free".
