When it comes time to planning what to do in San Diego, there is one thing you must not miss and that is a trip to Balboa Park.
This incredible park which is loaded with flower gardens, huge water fountains, museums of all kinds(15), and even The San Diego Zoo.
Balboa Park is located right outside downtown San Diego and is one of the most beautiful places in town.
Balboa Park covers a over 1,200 total acres and it's only 6 blocks away from downtown San Diego.
Balboa Park has over 85 cultural and recreational organizations, including fifteen museums and various performing arts groups, like the Marie Hitchcock Puppet Theatre and the world-famous Globe Theatres, which presents at least 14 productions and 550 performances a year. And speaking of "world famous," Balboa Park is also home to the San Diego Zoo, where you can spend an entire day just walking around the 100-acre grounds, discovering colorful and exotic species of animals displayed in spacious natural habitats. The San Diego Zoo is recognized as one of the best zoo's in the world, and the attractive park setting it is set within makes it even that much more special to visit.
Balboa Park is also acclaimed for its horticultural treasures'eight glorious gardens including an award-winning rose garden and a butterfly garden; rare plant species; 58 different varieties of palm trees; and an outstanding Botanical Building housing over 2,000 different tropical plants. All these botanical marvels are set among manicured lawns, shady groves of beautiful majestic trees or nestled within peaceful vistas all over the park.
Take a look at the wonderful Balboa Park website and take a look at some of the places you will want to see whan you get there. It is good for at least one full day plus of fun and activity and that does not include the San Diego Zoo, which is a day long event in itself.
